ALLEGAN: Death Cafe
Wings of Hope Hospice in Allegan is sponsoring a “Death Café,” part of a growing worldwide phenomenon where people, often strangers, gather to talk about death and eat good food, according to Wings of Hope Hospice executive director Theresa Lynn.
Death Café will be Tuesday, Oct. 22, from 5-7 p.m. at the hospice office conference room, 530 Linn St., across from Ascension Allegan General Hospital.
Lynn said, “The objective of Death Café is to ‘increase awareness of death with a view to helping people make the most of their (finite) lives.’ Death Café was founded by Jon Underwood in England in 2011 based on the work of Bernard Crettaz, a Swiss sociologist. Lizzy Miles was the first person to offer Death Café in the United States.
“Individuals may participate according to their level of comfort. The conversation will be thoughtful, respectful and confidential.”
The free event will have complimentary hors d’oeuvres and desserts. Seating is limited. RSVP by calling the Wings of Hope Hospice office by Oct. 15 at 1-800-796-2676 or (269) 686-8659.
