Allegan: 'Kinetic Affect' townhall
ALLEGAN—A pair of motivational speakers will be featured at a free “town hall gathering” in Allegan on Thursday, March 9, at Griswold Auditorium.
“Kinetic Affect” is comprised of Gabriel Giron and Kirk Latimer.
A press release describes their presentation of “spoken word poetry and honest storytelling” as: “Words and rhythm collide on stage with real and raw stories of survival that speak to the universal heart of people... taking audiences on a rollercoaster ride of emotion, one that opens their hearts and minds and then fills them with hope.”
Giron is a cancer survivor and U.S. Army veteran; Latimer is a former high school English teacher and “a survivor of his own destructive past.”
The event will feature a quick snapshot of the current youth substance abuse rates in Allegan County along with a brief summary of suicide data as reported by the 2016 youth data summary for Allegan County.
Allegan Public Schools teens will receive community service hours for attending. Those who bring a parent along to the presentation can be entered in a drawing to win a Visa gift card.
The event will be from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. The Griswold is at 401 Hubbard St.
The event is free but guests must register at https://kineticaffect.eventbrite.com.
