Blackhawks post shutout over Hopkins
Fennville played with a ton of effort in recording a 2-0 non-league boys’ soccer win over Hopkins on Friday, Sept. 19.
“They seemed to want it a little bit more than us,” said Hopkins coach Wade Schuemann of the Blackhawks.
The win moved Fennville to 6-3 on the season.
“We stepped it up in the second half (aided by a stiff wind),” said Fennville coach Kyle Nevenziel. “I was happy to see us use the wing tonight.”
The Blackhawks got on the scoreboard midway through the first half on sharp passes from Hunter Shaw to Felipe Suarez that ended up with a pretty goal off the foot of Robert Liddiard.
Fennville locked up the tilt on a second half marker by Alfred Rodriguez on an assist from Liddiard.
“That goal gave us some breathing room,” Nevenzel said. “We played more loose after that.”
Sergio Correa pitched his fourth shutout of the season in goal for the Blackhawks.
