Wayland girls’ bowling stays unbeaten with win over Hopkins
DORR—The undefeated and state-ranked Wayland girls’ bowling team ran its season record to 9-0 by defeating a much-improved Hopkins outfit 21-9 at High Mark Lanes on Thursday, Jan. 21.
“Although scores were down because we failed to adjust to the wood lanes here, I was pleased by the way we bowled,” said Wildcat coach Bill Holbrook.
The Wildcats normally bowl exclusively on synthetic lanes.
“We tried to focus as much as we could on these lanes,” Holbrook said.
The early wrap-up of the match enabled Holbrook to utilize two new bowlers in game two in freshmen Mackenzie Banas and junior Tiara Vincent.
The Wildcats took two close Baker games wins, 147-142 and 163-154.
Sophomore Marissa Bruinsslot bowled a team-high 197, followed by sophomore Sydney Urben at 180, junior Erin Porteous at 153, senior Lizzy Cobb at 147 and senior Aubree Hodges at 133.
Sophomore Jessica Henderson was the Wildcats’ leading bowler in game two with a 136. Vincent chipped in with a 128. Other scores turned in by Wayland were a 108 by freshman Amber Beggs and a 96 by Banas.
