Bulldogs cruise past Paw Paw, finish 8-0 in division
The Otsego girls’ basketball team had already secured the Wolverine Conference North championship.
On Friday, Feb. 19, the Bulldogs put an exclamation mark on the title.
Hosting Paw Paw, Otsego jumped out to a 24-4 lead and never looked back in posting the 51-24 victory, thereby finishing divisional play with a perfect 8-0 record.
“It was a good night for us,” said Otsego coach Tony Koshar, whose team improved to 16-3 overall and will take a 12-game winning streak into the Wolverine Conference title game against Sturgis on Thursday, Feb. 25. “It was the last regular-season home game for our four seniors, so it was nice to send them off with a win.”
Those four seniors—Katie Voisard, Rachel Perry, Madison Secord and Hailey Davis—were all in the starting lineup.
Perry finished with eight points, while Davis had a season-best five points. Voisard chipped in with two points.
“I’ve just really been playing well and we have really come together as a team this season,” Voisard said. “It’s been so much fun. This is a great group of girls and everyone does their part.”
Koshar credits the seniors and their leadership as a big reason for the team’s success.
“Overall, we’re a young team,” he said. “We have a freshman and three sophomores who see a lot of playing time. The seniors have been instrumental in helping those girls and they’ve also been really unselfish. They’ve all accepted their roles and have done whatever they can to help the team.”
That senior group helped stake Otsego to a 6-3 lead before the Bulldogs embarked on an 18-1 scoring run that spilled over to the second quarter. By half time, the Otsego lead stood at 27-9.
