ArtsAlive fundraiser announces winners
The Saugatuck-Douglas Historical Society ended up with the most votes in the Allegan County Community Foundation’s fifth Keep Your ArtsAlive! competition.
The foundation each May through September accepts $1 vote/donations for more than a dozen nonprofits. Each institution keeps the money/votes it receives and the foundation gives $24,250 in prizes.
Foundation executive director Theresa Bray is shown above announcing the different prizes at the ArtsAlive Bash on Saturday, Oct. 18.
Receiving $4,000-top prizes were the nonprofits in the top five in voting: the historical society, Saugatuck Center for the Arts, Saugatuck-Douglas District Library, West Michigan Glass Art Center and the Forever Curious Children’s Museum in Allegan and Fennville.
The historical society also won $1,000 for having the most voters.
Sixth in voting, good for a $1,500 prize, was the Allegan Area Arts Council. Outdoor Discovery Center won $1,000 for being seventh in voting. In eighth, Henika District Library in Wayland won $500. Mid-Lakes Chorus won $250 in ninth place.
Also participating were the Fennville District Library, Otsego Area Historical Society, Lakeshore Arts Alliance, Allegan District Library, Regent Theatre in Allegan, Douglas Dutchers, Hopkins District Library and Allegan Community Players.
There were 108,581 ArtsAlive votes cast in the competition. Since starting in 2010, the competition has generated close to $600,000 for county nonprofit groups.
