Former Hopkins beautician turns 105
Ann Wynne, formerly of Hopkins, will celebrate her 105th birthday April 25.
Wynne, a long-time resident of Hopkins, ran a beauty shop out of her home and had been the beautician for the Klinesteker-Switek Funeral Home.
Wynne was born and raised in Duryea, Pa. After getting her cosmetology license, she went to work for a beauty shop in Detroit. Detroit is where she met her husband, Bill Wynne. Bill was also a barber.
When the Wynne’s had their son Paul, 74 years ago, the Wynne’s did not want to raise their son in Detroit, so they moved back to Allegan County. Bill was originally from the Miner Lake area.
Bill was a past master of Hopkins Masonic Lodge, past president of the Lions Club and had owned a barbershop on Locust Street in Allegan for many years. He died on Easter Sunday 1960.
Ann continued her beauty shop in Hopkins until the late 1970s or early 1980s, according to her son. She was a member of the Alter Society at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Watson.
At the age of 93, she moved into an assisted living facility in Mecosta. At 103, she moved into a long-term care facility in Greenville.
For those who remember Ann, birthday cards can be mailed to Anna Wynne—110, Spectrum RNC, 615 S. Bower St., Greenville, MI 48838.
