Barbara Ruth Roberts, 92
Barbara Ruth Roberts, 92, of Brighton, passed away peacefully at her home early Monday morning, May 16, 2016. Born on Aug. 5, 1923 in Allegan, she was the daughter of Herbert and Josephine (McCormick) Whitcomb.
An Allegan High School graduate and Brighton area resident since 1968, Barbara was a fabulous tennis player and wicked ping pong player who also enjoyed golf and bowling. Most of all, she was a great mother and her family was her world.
She was the beloved wife of John H. Roberts, whom she married on May 18, 1941 in Holland. They would have celebrated their 75th wedding anniversary this past Wednesday.
Barbara was the loving mother of David (Carol) Roberts of Brighton, Barbara (Don) Baruzzini of Howell, Jonathon Roberts of Brighton, Joseph (Louise) Roberts of Springhill, Fla., and William (Lori) Roberts of Howell. She was the proud and adoring grandmother of 17 grandchildren, 22 great-grandchildren and four great-great-grandchildren.
Barbara was preceded in death by her siblings, Dorothy Whitcomb, Kathryn Wright, William Whitcomb, Robert Whitcomb and Margaret Parker.
A funeral service in celebration of Barbara's life will be Saturday, May 21, at 1:30 p.m. with visitation beginning at 11:30 a.m. at MacDonald's Funeral Home in Howell (517-546-2800). Interment will follow at the Pleasant Valley Cemetery in Brighton Township.
