Jerry Don Mitts, 72

Jerry Don Mitts, 72, of Fennville, passed away Monday, June 29, 2020, at the Glenn Arbor Hospice in Battle Creek. He was born Sept. 11, 1947, to Coy and Helen Ray (Winchester) Mitts in New Port, Ark.

Jerry resided in the Fennville area for many years. Jerry was a long-haul trucker for many years. He enjoyed working on vehicles in his younger days, but mostly he enjoyed going fishing anywhere and at any given time; if fishing was involved, he was sure to be a part of it.

He is preceded in death by his wife, Shirley Ann Mitts; daughter, Paulette Valentine; parents, Coy Mitts and Helen Ray; and siblings, Brenda Seeback, Coy “Buddy” Mitts, Larry Mitts, and Robert Mitts.

Jerry is survived by his children, Jimmy (Mindy Whitaker) Rice of Holland, Milinda (Kevin) Lyttaker of Holland, Sheila (Harold) Bennett of South Haven, Jerry (Stephanie) Morris of Kalamazoo, and Shelley (Steve) Gilliam of Dowagiac; siblings, Ron Mitts of Fennville, Wesley Mitts of Fennville, Jimmy Mitts of Paragauld, Ark., Linda Riddell of Mountain Home, Ark., Joan Diaz of Holland, Sandy Garcia of Gulf Shores, Ala., Kathy Hunter of Batesville, Ark., and Teresa Mitts of Portia, Ark.; 22 grandchildren; and 47 great-grandchildren, with another great-grandchild on the way. Numerous nieces and nephews also survive.

Visitation will be from 11 a.m. to noon on Monday, July 6, at Filbrandt Family Funeral Home in South Haven. Funeral services will follow the visitation at noon with the Rev. Rick Jones officiating at the funeral home. Jerry will be laid to rest next to his wife Shirley at East Saugatuck Cemetery in Fillmore Township.
