Judy Thorburn, 71

Judy Thorburn, 71, of Lawton passed away Thursday, Oct. 2, 2014, at Rose Arbor Hospice Residence, Kalamazoo. She was born Feb. 26, 1943, in Kalamazoo, the daughter of the late Russell L. and Alice E. (Carpenter) Hoenes.  
She attended Andrews University and graduated from Columbia University in Washington, D.C., as a registered nurse.  She received her master's degree from Wayne State University and her doctorate from Western Michigan University.  
She loved the sunshine and enjoyed gardening, reading and writing poetry, traveling, shell collecting and avidly enjoyed snow and water skiing.  
In June of 2007, in Porter Township, Judy was united in marriage to Andy Thorburn, who survives. Also surviving are son Gary (Anne) Stewart of Paw Paw; grandson Jameson Stewart; daughter Ann (Dan) McBee of Milwaukee, Wis.; brother Dr. Russell (Sally) Hoenes of Sonora, Calif.; and nieces and nephews, Kari, Marcella and Greg.  
A celebration of Judy's life will be held at a later date.  Arrangements are by the Adams Funeral Home, Paw Paw.  Memorial contributions to Arthritis Foundation, Decatur Homeless Shelter or Wings of God, Paw Paw may be mailed to the funeral home.  Share a memory or sign the guest book at: www.adamspawpaw.com
