Larry A. Waigand, 87
Larry A. Waigand, 87, of Allegan died Thursday, Dec. 25, 2014, at the Ely Manor Nursing Home where he had been a resident since November of 2011.
Larry was born July 26, 1927, in Chicago the only child of the late Larry Sr. and Olive (King) Waigand.
Larry farmed all of his life with his father in Allegan after moving from Chicago in his early teens. He loved the land and growing things both on the farm and in his garden. He was a skilled woodworker, building birdhouses, signs, trellises and tables, most of which he gave away to his family.
He loved to travel and camp with his wife and family to the western states every summer. All his children learned lots of skills from their father during their travels. Larry and Wanita moved to Idaho for a few years and had a chance to explore the mountains before returning back to Allegan, due to his wife's health.
He enjoyed his pets, especially his German Shepherds.
Surviving are his six children, Sharon and Larry Fales, Dennis and Deb Waigand, Diane and Roy Ellis, Karen and Philo Frost, Peggy and Larry Radke and Wyatt Waigand; 16 grandchildren; and 21 great-grandchildren.
Larry was married to Wanita Grauman on Aug. 25, 1945, and they were married for 64 years before she died in April of 2010.
Friends may meet with the family on Sunday, Dec. 28, from 2 to 4 p.m. at Gorden Funeral Residence, Allegan Chapel, www.gordenfuneral.com, where funeral services will be Monday, Dec. 29, at 11 a.m. Pastor G. Patrick White will officiate. Interment will be at Oakwood Cemetery, Allegan. '
