Norma Sjaarda Mieras, 88

Norma Sjaarda Mieras, 88, of Longboat Key, Fla., formerly of Douglas, passed away on Oct. 19, 2015, peacefully and painlessly under the care of Tidewell Hospice.
Norma was a wonderful free spirit who was much younger in attitude than her chronological age. She is an inspiration to all of us on how to live a life of joy and age without fear. She was an artist, model and master floral designer. She will be dearly missed.
Norma was preceded in death by her husband Russell; infant son Christopher; brothers, Harv and Orwin Sjaarda; and long time companion Jack Venema.
Norma is survived by her family, Marta and Craig Altizer and Andrea and Thomas Poest; three grandchildren, Diana (Wes) Bennett, Dominic (Debra) Poest and Nicolaas Altizer; four great-grandchildren, Timothy Monton and Mason, Austin and Jayden Poest; and dear friend George Lomnycky. She is also survived by her sister Doris (Jerome) Simpson; brother Dewey Sjaarda; and sisters-in-law, Florence Sjaarda, Verdi Sjaarda and Marilyn Sweers; and many nieces, nephews and cousins.
At her request, there was no service after cremation. Her ashes were spread in the ocean as requested so she could always be at the beach she loved.
Norma asked that you plant a flower and have a good time in her memory.
