The Viking track teams used a combination of championship performances and some very effective depth to capture a pair of OK Silver League track and field titles on Friday, May 8.
Both teams had to use all of their resources to put away the rest of the five-team field, but managed to do it with some well-placed top five finishes with multiple participants.
The girls’ team finished first with 162, but was pushed by second place Calvin Christian’s 144.33 points with the remaining four schools finishing with the following totals; 3. NorthPointe 98.33, 4. Godwin 47, 5. Lee 36.33 and 6. Kelloggsville 33.
The boys’ team, while accumulating more first place points than the girls’ team, still had to use the team’s depth to win the title with 171 points. Kelloggsville was next with 124 and the others came in with the following totals; 3. Calvin Ch. 114, 4. Godwin 61, 5. NorthPointe 37 and 6. Lee 16.
Winning individual titles for the girls’ team were Discus—Bailey Ballard 111’5.75, Long jump—Julia Forbes 16’3”, 300 Low hurdles—Kennedy Miedema 51.4 and the 1600-m relay team of Kennedy Miedema, Josie Freybler, Julia Forbes and Nicole Pavlak.
The boys’ team had a double champion in Quincy Collings. He won the high jump at 6’7” and the long jump with a leap of 21’.
