Harper's Bazaar Names Michigan Wedding Spots Among Best Garden Venues

Each weekend in the U.S., an average of 44,230 weddings take place. While Michigan may not be traditionally thought of as a nuptial destination outside of the Upper Midwest, a recent feature may change many couples' minds. Harper's Bazaar recently named two different venues in southeast Michigan among their "22 Best Garden Venues in the World."

Zingerman's Cornman Farms, located about 15 minutes from Ann Arbor, features a 1894 farmhouse situated on a 42-acre working farm. There are also gardens, a white tent pavilion, and a barn -- ideal for those rustic, Pinterest-perfect weddings. Executive Chef Kieron Hales uses homegrown ingredients to create feasts for weddings, corporate events, and private parties.

The impressive property is the result of two years of work and $4.6 million in upgrades. The original 1837 barn had to be taken down, shipped to Ohio, and restored there before being sent back. They then installed air conditioning, heating, fireplaces, and even an elevator.

Around 93% of brides use the internet to plan their wedding, and couples who yearn for a farmhouse style celebration will be happy to know that, according to the Cornman Farms website, the property can accommodate up to 350 guests. Venue rentals include the farmhouse and barn, as well as the tent pavilion, staff, chef's kitchen and garden, bridal suite, Wi-Fi, and a sound system. With all that included, it's no wonder that Harper's Bazaar thought so highly of it.

But Cornman Farms wasn't the only Michigan venue to receive a high ranking on the international list. The Planterra Conservatory, situated in West Bloomfield Township in Detroit, is a slightly smaller venue than Cornman Farms but is every bit as breathtaking. It's a full wedding venue that offers everything from flowers and food to party rentals, and according to the magazine, it feels much more cosmopolitan than one might assume.

"With European carved trusses, indoor koi ponds and a dramatic stone archway, the Planterra Conservatory houses a wide collection of lush, exotic botanicals. Providing views of the stars on a clear night and soft, natural light during the day, this venue is practically perfect for any party and promises stellar light for photos," says Harper's Bazaar.

These two spots are by no means the only picturesque venues in Michigan -- not by a long shot. Couples who feel all the world's a stage can be married in the Fox Theatre in Detroit, while beach-loving brides can say their "I do"s in St. Joseph.

These lists just go to show that Michigan shouldn't be discounted as a romantic and beautiful state perfect for exchanging vows and partying late into the evening.
