Douglas: Community Pride event
DOUGLAS—Douglas will host a Community Pride event Saturday, June 1, to honor the 50th anniversary of the Stonewall Uprising, viewed as the start of the gay liberation movement in the United States.
The local commemoration in downtown Douglas’ Beery Field from 1 to 5 p.m. will include Elizabeth Estes discussing the history of Stonewall, a performance by the PerSisterhood Choir, local residents Marsha Gaspar and Glenna DeJong sharing their story as the official first gay marriage in Michigan; and a bullying presentation by James Gammicchia from the Gay, Lesbian and Straight Education Network.
There will be food, beverages, music and events for all ages, sponsors say.
All are welcome. For more information, visit facebook.com/Community-Pride-MI-343203799621162/.
