HOPKINS—The Sweet Grass Moon Pow Wow, the annual cultural celebration hosted by the Gun Lake Tribe of Pottawatomi Indians is Saturday, July 8, from 1-8 p.m. and Sunday, July 9, from noon to 5 p.m. at Jijak Camp, 2044 126th Ave., Hopkins.

Here’s Saturday’s schedule:

7 a.m. Sunrise Ceremony (Sacred Fire Pavilion)

9 a.m. Dancer registration opens

1 p.m. Grand Entry—Jijak Pow Wow arena

            Flag Song

            Invocation

            Veteran Honor Song

            Welcome address—Vice chairman Ed Pigeon

1:30 p.m. Intertribal dancing

            Tiny Tot exhibition (0-4)

            Exhibition style dancing—all categories

2:45 p.m. Grass Dance special

3 p.m. Purple Shawl Honor Song with jingle dress healing dance

3:15 p.m. Intertribal spot dances

3:30 p.m. Team dance special

4 p.m. Gun Lake Hoop Dance Society and Mary Bush honor song and giveaway

4:15 p.m. Anishnabeck bling contest (must be made by the entrant or family member wearing it: 2016-current)

5-7 p.m. Dinner break and feast

7 p.m. Grand entry

            Flag song—dance out

7:30 p.m. Intertribal dancing

7:15 p.m. Exhibition style dancing—all categories all ages (6-16) (17-49) (50-100)

7:45 p.m. Arena director’s special—Dave Shananaquet

8 p.m. Hand drum competition
