Trojans hold off Bulldogs thanks to Karklin’s PK
Plainwell boys’ soccer coach Garry Snyder wasn’t particularly pleased with the way his team played in the early going of its Wolverine Conference East showdown with Otsego on Monday, Sept. 22.
“We weren’t very focused, especially in the first half,” Snyder said. “We’re coming off a stretch where we’ve been playing a lot and some of the guys were talking about fatigue, but where you’re playing your cross-town rival you have to be ready to play.
“We just didn’t come out as disciplined as we needed to.”
Fortunately for Snyder, his players still found a way to win.
Thanks to a penalty-kick goal by Davis Karklins and a strong defensive effort, the Trojans managed to escape with the 1-0 victory over the host Bulldogs.
“It’s a win and I’ll always take a win,” Snyder said. “We just have to do a better job coming out prepared to play.”
Karklin’s penalty kick came midway through the first half after he was brought down in the box.
