Otsego Township trustee departs; new trustee appointed
Otsego Township board members voted to accept the resignation of longtime trustee Nancy Schmitt, effective April 1, at the Monday, March 9, board meeting.
Schmitt has served on the township board since she was elected in 1996.
Clerk Cindy Hunt read Schmitt’s letter of resignation at the meeting.
The letter said she had enjoyed serving on the board and thanked the township, but Schmitt now has to focus on the estate of her late son so she will not have the time to serve on the board.
“There are a lot of phone calls, paperwork and appointments involved with (the estate),” she said.
Hunt called Schmitt a “valuable asset” and congratulated her on her years of government service.
Supervisor Bryan Winn also congratulated Schmitt on her service.
“Nancy isn’t a great big person in stature, but she will tell you the truth whether you appreciate it or not,” he said. “Thank you for your service.”
At the same meeting, board members voted to appoint Rick Moll to take Schmitt’s seat and serve the remainder of her term.
When former board member Bob Cushman resigned in October, two individuals were interested in the position, Winn said. Moll was one of them.
At the time, Matt McPherson was appointed to fill Cushman’s seat, Schmitt’s seat is now available for Moll to fill.
Moll has lived in the township for 22 years.
“When the opening came, I was more than happy to throw my hat in,” he said.
