Plainwell grad exhibits grand champion steer
Plainwell High School graduate Brennen Meert exhibited the Grand Champion Market Steer at the 41st Annual North American International Livestock Exposition in Louisville, Ky.
The steer was purchased by Kentucky Bankers & Associates for $24,500 at the exposition’s Sale of Champions.
Meert, 20, has been showing livestock since he was 8 years old.
The Grand Valley State University sophomore is studying plant and soil sciences and works on his family’s farm in his spare time.
He said he plans to donate 10 percent of his earnings to DC Strong, a Plainwell nonprofit that provides help to children with cancer.
