Veterans Day Salute

Without exception, the American Veteran is our nation’s greatest asset.

On Wednesday the 11th of November it is our opportunity to remember and express our appreciation to the men and women who served in the armed forces. The day commemorates the end of World War One on the 11th hour of the 11th day of the 11th month.

Soon after the documents were signed bringing an end to the Great War as it was often called, the Doughboys of the American Expeditionary Force boarded troop ships and began returning home. A small group of them stayed on in France, eventually congregating in Paris at places like Harry’s New York Bar where, in addition to copious amounts of champagne, brandy, and wine they enjoyed the new cocktail, the Sidecar - named after the passenger compartment of a motorcycle. One evening the former soldiers agreed they needed to form a unique organization so they could stay in touch and mutually support each other. At least according to tradition, it was the beginning of the American Legion.
